The pitcher plant Nepenthes madagascariensis is found exclusively in the lowlands of Madagascar below 400 meters altitude – it is widespread on the east coast of Madagascar, especially in the South around the city of Tolagnaro. It grows on sandy soils as well as in open, light locations not far from lakes, rivers and swamps. On the IUCN Endangered Species List, the Madagascar pitcher plant is classified as endangered (Vulnerable) and should not be obtained from unknown sources to prevent poaching.
